What’s Happening Now in Jamaica

Jamaica continues recovery efforts following the impact of Hurricane Melissa, which brought heavy rainfall, strong winds, and widespread flooding across multiple parishes.

Current Situation

Power Restoration: Jamaica Public Service crews have restored electricity to a majority of affected communities. However, some rural and mountainous areas remain without power due to damaged infrastructure and fallen utility poles.

Road Access: Several roadways that were initially impassable due to flooding and landslides have reopened. Cleanup crews continue debris removal operations.

Shelter Operations: Emergency shelters established by the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) are gradually closing as families return home.

Water Supply: Some communities are still experiencing temporary water service disruptions while repairs are underway.
